Actor Jayam Ravi’s 25th film 'Bhoomi', directed by Lakshman is all set for release on OTT platform. The makers initially denied OTT release of the movie back in summer, and later it was rumoured to release directly on Sun TV and SunNXT at the same time.

Jayam Ravi on Thursday confirmed that his upcoming Tamil film Bhoomi will skip theatres and release directly on Disney + Hotstar for Pongal festival 2021. Now, the first trailer of this social thriller is out now.

From the glimpse of the video, we get to know that Ravi, a NASA scientist, got sudden interest in farming and farmers. His interest turn out to be a big headache for local greedy politicians and corporates. The film also seems to have a lot of dialogues glorifying the sacrifice of farmers and their plight. Earlier, in a statement he shared on Twitter, Ravi opened up about the decision to release his 25th film Bhoomi on an OTT platform. “Bhoomi is a milestone in many ways in my career. Besides being my 25th project and one that’s close to my heart for that reason, it also joins the list of movies released in the times of Covid. As much as I was looking forward to watching the movie with my dear fans in theatres, the universe had other plans by helping me pay tribute to them by bringing Bhoomi to their homes. I am excited along with Disney + Hotstar to be a part of your Pongal 2021 celebrations right in the heart of your homes.”

Director Lakshman said in a media interaction, “Unlike in his previous 24 films, the actor will be giving it back to the society with this film. It has an agriculture-based subject, and he will be playing a farmer. There will be a social message, on the lines of Shankar sir’s films.”

Considering the fact that 'Bhoomi' is Ravi's 25th film, the makers originally wanted it to be a theatrical release. However due to the COVID-19 SOPs and the makers have finally decided to release Bhoomi in OTT platform. Meanwhile reports suggest that the satellite rights of the movie are acquired by Sun TV.

The actor-director combo has previously worked together in 'Romeo Juliet' and 'Bogan'. The film marks Tamil debut film for Nidhi Aggerwal and Ronit Roy. Sakshi Dwivedi, Saranya Ponvannan, Sathish, Thambi Ramaiah and Dato Radha Ravi playing pivotal roles.

The film is produced by Jayam Ravi’s mother-in-law Sujataa Vijayakumar under the banner Home Movie Makers. Lakshman has co-written the script with Chandru. D Imman has composed the music while Dudley has done the cinematography.

Jayam Ravi was last seen in 'Comali', a comedy-drama film written and directed by debutant Pradeep Ranganathan. He has completed the first schedule of Mani Ratnam's most anticipated historical movie 'Ponniyin Selvan' in which Ravi is speculated to play the titular role.
