Vanitha Vijayakumar, the daughter of veteran actor Vijayakumar and Manjula, made her acting debut in 1995 thrrough 'Chandralekha' opposite Vijay. After that she has done some south Indian films like Hitler Brothers, Summa Nachunu Irukku among others.

Vanitha married to television actor Akash in 2000 and put a full-stop to her acting career. The pair have a son Vijay Sri Hari and Jovika Vijaykumar. The pair officially filed for divorce and made headlines over the drama on child custody dispute.

After lengthy child custody dispute at the Madras High Court, the court ordered Vijay Sri Hari to move with his grandfather, Vijayakumar and then with his father, Akash.
Later, in 2007, Vanitha got married to businessman Anand Jay Rajan. The couple have a daughter Jayanita Vijayakumar born in 2009. Soon after that they parted ways and officially got divorce in 2012. A family court had granted their daughter Juanita's custody to the father, while the mother had the visitation rights.

Rumoured to be in relationship with dance master Robert, Vanitha produced a movie titled 'MGR, Sivaji, Rajini, Kamal' with Robert in the lead role, which failed to impress audience. The couple ended their relationship after being a subject to controversy. Vanitha claimed that they will make the official announcement on their relationship after the release of the movie. When rumours emerge the couple were secretly married, Robert in an interview said he is not Vanitha's husband, and that they were never in a relationship.
