Kamal Haasan gets awarded for lifetime achievement

Renowned Indian actor-director Kamal Haasan will be felicitated with the Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 15th Mumbai Film Festival.
Haasan has recently completed 50 years in the industry and he has over 190 films to his credit, across genres and languages like Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The 15th Mumbai Film Festival will take place from the 17th – 24, October 2013.

The Mumbai Academy of Moving Images ( MAMI) festival will present this award to the filmmaker-actor for his immense contribution to cinematic excellence. Shyam Benegal said, “He is a legend in every sense of the term. He is a writer, singer, director, lyricist and an actor par-excellence. We are extremely honored to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Kamal Haasan.”

Srinivasan Narayanan said, “My generation grew up watching Kamal Haasan’s films. His growth as an actor from K. Balachander’s Arangetram and Apoorva Raagangal to his award winning performances in Mani Ratnam’s Nayagan and Indian and the variety he brought in – from serious films to comedies to action films is phenomenal. He is straddling across all departments of filmmaking like a colossus.”

He is best known for his performances in films like Moondram Pirai, Nayagan, Pushpak, Appu Raja and Hey Ram. Acclaimed French filmmaker Costa-Gavras will also receive the award. The Academy Award-winner Costa-Gavras is known for his political thrillers like Z, Missing, The Little Apocalypse and Amen.
