The film is said to be a remake of Samir Thahir’s Chappa Kurishu, a trendsetter in Malayalam. Pulivaal is touted to be a comedy thriller.
Listin Stephen who made the Malayalam film is co-producing Pulivaal inTamil. Listin Stephen said : "The movie will not be a scene to scene remake of Chappa Kurishu. We have taken just the basic thread and the script will be entirely different."
