Maattrraan received mixed reviews from movie critics
Maattrraan is the much-anticipated movie of Surya. It is an action thriller film, where Surya portrays the role of conjoined twins. Its Telugu dubbed version ‘Brothers’ is also released at the same time.
The  movie received mixed reviews from national media. Here is the brief review from top national media and movie critics.

As conjoined twins, Surya has delivered a wonderful performance and it can be said that it is the best acting in his career and he is sure to bag a few best actor awards for it. He looks stunning in action and dance sequences. He has shown perfect comedy timing in the first half. Overall, Surya and KV Anand combo rocks and their latest movie Brothers is a superb entertainer with rich production values and good story. It is good treat for this weekend and it is must watch movie.
Rating: 3/5

Maattrraan has a great premise, great characters and actors who could have pulled off a complicated story. Sadly, the movie never capitalises on these strengths.
Rating: 2.5/5

Suriya delivers an extraordinary performance throughout the film. Kajal Agarwal has little scope for acting, but looks gorgeous in almost all the songs. Soundara Rajan’s cinematography is superb and so is the editing. The narration is excellent and the director never loses his grip either on the story or screenplay right from the beginning till the end.

Suriya is getting better and better. He carries the entire film on his shoulders and he does it with ease. He has shown the difference of the conjoined twins rightly in the body mannerism and voice modulation. Post the interval, he appears in this third look and he does everything perfectly. Kajal Aggarwal is pretty and beautiful; but she has to work more harder to get the lip sync right. Overall, Maattrraan is a perfect watch for this weekend with your family.

It is a fun ride till interval and in the second half there is a neat message told with lot of cinematic liberties. Suriya holds the film together as the script tends to waver towards the climax. Technically the film is outstanding with top of the range special effects and graphics, realistically portrayed action scenes, breath-taking camera work, fast-cut editing and great chemistry between the lead actors.
