There is widespread speculation that Maattrraan is inspired by the Hollywood film Stuck on You, with even posters of the two films looking similar. Suriya spoke the issue at a recent press meet and trashed the rumours.

The actor said, “We have a team. There is no necessity for us to copy anything from a foreign film. I have been seeing comments and links on social networking sites saying that Maattrraan is based on some world movie. Only after seeing those links, I came to know that such a film even exists!”

He further stated, “Scriptwriters Suba and director K V Anand have been discussing the story since Ayan. It took them almost four years to work on the story and I have lived the characters of Agilan and Vimal for more than a year now. Films based on conjoined twins would have released worldwide. But Mattrraan’s story is different.”

Though the whole team of Maattrraan was all praise for Suriya’s performance, the actor said, “I have taken lots of takes in many scenes. I ensure that the director is happy at the end of the day.”
He said that the shooting for the film was truly challenging as he had to enact different emotions for the two characters, Agilan and Vimalan.
