Vijay is an Indian film actor and a playback singer, based in the cinema of Tamil Nadu. Often referred to as Ilaya Thalapathy, he is the son of film producer and director S. A. Chandrasekhar. He was born on June 22, 1974.

Fans of Vijay might be disheartened to know that the teaser of Vijay's forthcoming flick Thuppakki will not be released on June 22. However, the latest reports suggest that it will now be released in the first week of July.
AR Murugadoss, the director of the film himself has confirmed that the teaser for the film has been delayed to avoid clash with the release of Karthi's Saguni. Further, it is also being said that the makers of the film have deliberately taken the decision stating that the promotions of their film might go unnoticed due to the release of Ajith Kumar's Billa 2 and Karthi's Sauguni which is releasing on June 22.
He bagan his career with performing uncredited roles as a child actor in films produced by his father but he made his debut in a lead role in 1992 in the film Naalaya Theerpu.

He attended the Balalok Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Virugambakkam, Chennai and began his post-secondary studies at Loyola College in Chennai before entering his acting career.
Vijay has starred in various successful films like Poove Unakkaga (1996), Kadhalukku Mariyadhai (1997), Thulladha Manamum Thullum (1999), Kushi (2000), Priyamaanavale (2000), Kaavalan (2011) and recent comedy genre blockbuster Nanban (2012).
He has also worked as a playback singer in a lot of his films. During his career in the Tamil film industry, Vijay has won two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and was nominated for one Filmfare Award. He received honorary doctorate from MGR University for his philanthropic works. He also worked with several corporations as a brand ambassador and is a former brand ambassador of the IPL Cricket team, Chennai Super Kings.
Vijay married Sangeeta Sornalingam of Sri Lankan Tamil descent in 1999. They have two children.
