Yugabharathi’s sarcastic criticism on Danush's 'Kolaveri di'

Yugabharathi takes a ‘dig’ at Dhanush for his Kolaveri...
Though the song 'Why This Kolaveri di… ' penned and sung by Dhanush has become a huge hit across many States in the past fortnight or so, purists are not sparing the song for its ‘Tanglish’ words.
The song, which features in Dhanush’s upcoming film 3 directed by his wife Aishwarya, has a mixture of Tamil and English words and has been sung by Dhanush in a husky voice.

Lyricist Yugabharathi is not amused to listen to the song and doesn’t make any attempt to his displeasure.  In a sarcastically-worded statement, the noted lyricist has said “When I heard the song, I was happy that Dhanush has attempted to ‘massacre’ English, a foreign language.  Till now, only Tamil was ‘murdered’ by lyricists and playback singers in films.  Dhanush, doubling up as lyric writer and singer, has cleverly ridiculed the ‘English prowesses’ of the Tamil-speaking populace.

“Raw and naïve at lyric-writing, Dhanush has ‘successfully’ fractured the structure of English by using words not coherently but as bits and pieces.  Dhanush’s effort in bidding ‘goodbye’ to English language and drive it out of the country is highly appreciable (!).  He can’t set any precedent as very few would have understood the lyrics he has written and sung.

“In my opinion, the song only symbolizes the tangible and frantic effort on the part of a hero whose last few films over the past 2-3 years have fared very badly at the box-office.  Through the song, Dhanush has also clearly depicted the difficulties and hardships today’s youths apparently face in writing and speaking even in simple English.  Songs such as these are surely a tribute to pure Tamil songs as they stay away from usually used words.  For this, Dhanush should be credited!”  Thus ends Yugabharathi’s sarcastic criticism.
