Noted producer-director Shakthi Chidambaram has lodged a formal complaint with the city police commissioner stating that his payment of Rs.1.60 crores is lying with Sun Pictures. He has named Hansraj Saxena, the COO of Sun Pictures (part of the sprawling Sun Network) and his assistant Ayyappan as the culprit behind the non-payment of the money, which is rightfully his.

In his lengthy complaint to the police, Shakthi has stated that he had been around for the past 20 years in Kollywood’s dream factory functioning in various roles of producer, director and even as a distributor. “I got the distribution rights of ‘Enthiran: The Robot’ for the Chengalpattu region at the time of the film’s release. I struck a deal for Rs.4 crores with Hansraj Saxena of Sun Pictures.

“Though I paid him in full, he didn’t allot the 8 cinema theatres I had asked for and purposely left one high-earning theatre, making me incur a huge loss of Rs.1.60 crores. In the ultimate analysis, he allotted only 7 theatres and not 8 as per our agreement. When I demanded that I be paid the amount of Rs.1.60 crores back, the duo of Saxena and Ayyappan threatened me to keep mum or face ‘inconsolable consequences’.

“I didn’t lodge a complaint as they (Sun Pictures) enjoyed the patronage of the ruling party at that time. Now, I want my money back and I request the policy to initiate proper action to get my money back,” Shakthi’s complaint said.
