The music of director Vasanthabalan's much awaited epic film Aravaan will be launched in Chennai on October 5, 2011. The film has Aadhi, Pasupathy, Archana Kavi and Dhansika in the lead roles. Aravaan, set in the mid 18th century, is the story of an ordinary man with an extraordinary talent. Aravaan is based on one of the many stories that were part of 'Kaavalkottam' (a collection of novels penned by Su. Venkatesan). Ace singer Karthik will make his debut as music director in this film. The technical team includes Siddharth (camera) and Vijay Murugan (art direction). A grand village including a Karuppan temple and hundreds of huts made of bamboo, straw, palm leaves and rocks were erected in Arittapatti Hill near Madurai for a particular sequence.

Aravaans are security guards named after Aravaan, the son of Arjuna, who sacrificed himself before Goddess Kali for the victory of the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra war in Mahabharata. The story revolves around one such Aravaan.
