Music by Vijay Antony
We all know that the Vijay-Vijay Anthony combo has never failed at the box office so far. So the expectations are sky high for Velayudham, directed by Jayam Raja. Music compose by Vijay Anthony was released under Sony Music label. Produced by Aascar Ravichandran, Velayudham is expected to be a racy entertainer with the right dose of comedy and sentiment. So here we take a look at the songs of Velayudham...
The album begins with the philosophical 'Rathathin Rathamay' rendered by Srimathumitha and Haricharan. Watch out for some meaningful lyrics penned by Annamalai. This song clearly shows Vijay's political ambitions in the near future and Ilayathalapathy conveys lots of messages in this track.
'Molachu Moonu' sung by Prasanna and Supriya Joshi is the only melody in this album. Music director Vijay Anthony has given a folkish touch with the help of desi instruments. The string strokes used throughout the song are pretty interesting.
A Tamil music album is always incomplete without a racy kuthu number. When Vijay teams up with Vijay Anthony, the expectations are sky high. So here comes 'Chillax' a foot tapping kuthu number crooned by Karthik and Charulatha Mani. Look out for some amazing drum beats in this song; we are pretty sure that Vijay's electrifying dance movements will make it more interesting.
Then comes the peppy solo track, 'Mayam Seidhayo', rendered energetically by Sangeetha Rajeshwaran. This song is likely to be picturised on Genelia after falling in love with a superhero.
'Sonna Puriyadhu' is purely for Vijay fans. Music director Vijay Antony and Veera Shankar have rendered this peppy track which starts off like a thiruvizha song.
The title track 'Vela Vela' sung by Vijay Antony has already created a lot of buzz among his fans. This song also has some interesting English raps by Mark.
Review 2 By: Prakash Upadhyaya
Music directors know what kind of music the audience will expect from Ilayathalapathy Vijay's films. Especially, Vijay Antony, who has delivered sensational hits for the actor in Sukran and Vettaikaaran, understands the taste of the Kaavalan star's fans and keeping their demands in mind, he has composed the songs. The music director has joined hands with the 37-year-old actor for the third time with upcoming Tamil movie Velayudham. Let's see what he has offered. Read for the music review.
Ratthathin Rathame
Singers: Haricharan, Sri Madhumitha, Prasanna, Supriya Joshi
Lyrics: Annamalai
For all those Ilayathalapathy's hardcore fans, Vijay Antony kick-starts the proceedings with a meaningful number. Undoubtedly, this has been tuned keeping Vijay's political plans in mind. Annamalai's lyrics are good and Haricharan has not lost the opportunity to give life to the song. He is joined by Sri Madhumita and chorus.
Molachhu Moonu
Singers: Prasanna, Supriya Joshi
Lyrics: Viveka
Here comes a number to give you a romantic feel. Prasanna and Supriya Joshi have lent their voice for the melody track for which Viveka has penned the lyrics. Vijay Antony has full control over the instruments, as he changes the phase of it according to the singers' renditions.
Chillax
Singers: Karthik, Charulatha Mani
Lyrics: Annamalai
The triumph card of the album is out in the form of 'Chillax...'. The 4.45 minute number holds your attention throughout the song. Charulatha Mani steals the show and overshadows Karthik in the track. Her varying voice is a treat to hear in the kuthu song. Surely, Vijay's steps for the number are interesting to watch.
Maayam Seidhayo
Singers: Sangeetha Rajeshwaran
Lyrics: Viveka
Sangeetha Rajeshwaran goes solo for the song. The peppy number reminds one of his first love. It is probably shot on Genelia D'Souza, when she falls in love with Vijay. The song will have more appeal, when we hear the song with visuals.
Sonna Puriyathu
Vocals: Vijay Antony, Veera Shankar
Lyrics: Siva Shanmugham
Vijay's trademark song is out. Veera Shankar kick-starts the number with his engaging voice. Soon after a minute, Vijay Antony takes away the responsibility of entertaining the audience by the former. The moment he starts crooning, it instantly makes one to shake his legs. The energetic track is out and out mass number. The interesting element of the track is that 1000 dancers have shaken their legs along with the actor.
Velayudham
Singers: Vijay Antony, Mark
Lyrics: Priyan
Vijay Antony and Mark come behind the mike for the title track. The song is a mixture of Tamil and English lyrics, which are penned by Priyan. The music director has used rich instruments to have an explosive appeal in the film.
Verdict:
Vijay Antony's music has met the expectations of the audience. The album has all kinds of songs and the music director has targeted the mass as well as class listeners. Some of the song will have to be heard quite a few times before you see yourself humming. 'Chillax...', 'Sonna puriyathu...', and 'Ratthathin Rathame...'.
Vijay Fans Review
Velayudham had a music launch at Madurai, in front of thousands of Vijay fans and we Vijay Fans are happy to review the music from the wonderful team of Vijay - Vijay Anthony which had earlier given chart busters in Vettaikaaran. Adding on to this team is the Director Jayam Raja who not only has the knack of giving the audience good family entertainers but also with good music. When these 3 join it has to be a gala time for music lovers. Read on to know how good are the songs.
1. Rathathin Rathame - Singers: Haricharan & Madumitha, Lyrics: Annamalai
With Vijay's commercial films one can easily expect a sentimental song pertaining to atleast one family member and Vijay does not disappoint us here too with a sisterly sentiment song . Vijay Anthony too has not disappointed us as this song will surely touch the hearts of all the people especially one who have sisters. The lyrics like 'ammavum appavum ellame nee thane en vazhkai unakuellava... sethalum pudaithalum chediyaga mulaithalum yen vaasam unaku ellava..' is very powerful that you cannot dare to hate it. It really makes one feel that Vijay will feel the same and will perform the song from his heart. The music and singers have given out a lot of emotion and is one the best songs of the album. We are waiting to see Vijay in theatres in this song and am sure there will be a lot of people in tears after this song.

2. Molachu Moonu - Singers: Prasanna & Supriya Joshi, Lyrics: Viveka
When the 30 second promo was released last week everyone felt that this song was a little weak and will will not stand out as a good melody. After a few days when another promo was released everyone started to like this song and now on hearing the full song one can easily bet that this is the best song of the album. Awesome composition by Vijay Anthony and lyrics by Viveka makes the song a feel good melody. Lyrics are very important for a song and the lyrics plays a good part here too. 'Molachu moonu yelaiye vidale tharuven ulagu azhagi medala' brings out the true expressions when one is asked to describe his love.

3. Chillax - Singers: Karthik & Charulatha Mani, Lyrics : Annamalai
Vijay Anthony is well known for his peppy numbers and use of unusual lyrics like 'Naaka Mooka' and 'Aathichoodi'. This one is also on the same lines. A peppy number with perfect use of the word 'Chillax'. The song starts as a classical bit and then moves on to the kuthu mode and features a lot of classical elements with kuthu. One would associate Karthik with a slow melody number but Vijay Anthony has used him for this peppy number. Charulatha Mani, known for her classical singing has excelled in the classical part. One can note that she is always a part on Vijay Anthony music. She had also sung Yen Uchi Madai le from Vettaikaaran. The best of this Kuthu is that it is not loud and keep you entertained. This song makes put one in a confusion if this is the best song of the album or is the previous one. May be we can decide after viewing the visuals as Vijay, known for his kuthu dance, and Hanshika are gonna rock the dance floor with Chillax.
Rating - Chillax Machi... 4.5/5
4. Maayam Seidhayo - Singer: Sangeetha Rajeshwaran, Lyrics: Viveka
This song will feature Vijay and Genelia in a larger than life characterization. This is a dream sequence where Genelia will dream about Vijay. Seems to be a good concept since the movie is said to be based on a super hero subject. Seems to be a western number but with lyrics in tamil. Soothing music but could have been better. May be the picturisation would be good but need to be careful with the use of CG. May be a girl searching for her love would love this song as it describes a girls feelings perfectly. As of now this song does not satisfy the hype created by the other 3 songs. Repeated listening may change ones opinion.
Rating - 3/5
5. Sonna Puriyadhu - Singers: Vijay Anthony & Veera Shankar, Lyrics: Siva Shanmugam
Vijay's intro number always has a certain level of expectation and it has always satisfied all expectation. This is after a long time that we see a lyricist other than Kabilan writing the intro number for Vijay. The song starts as a thiruvizha number where the real folk elements are incorporated. The songs takes a new dimension after the folk part. 'Sonna puriyadhu sollukul adangadhu neenga ellam yen mela vecha paasam' seems to be that Vijay is telling the same to his fans around the world. There are a lot of elements to keep Vijay fans on the toes and no prizes for guessing that Vijay will make his fans dance to his steps. Lyrics are like Vijay's usual where he gives message to his fans. Few lyrics like 'Velayudham peru yen pathu veral Velu nikkadhu indha kaalu kottidichu da thelu...' and 'Sandaile MGR saatai le Ayyanar' will make the theatre roar. We are waiting to see Vijay set the screen on fire. Rating - 4/5
6. Vela Vela - Singers: Vijay Anthony & Marc, Lyrics: PriyanThis is one song that Vijay fans have been listening for more than a year while thinking about the movie. This is the theme song which was released along with the trailer that was released on the day the movie was launched. Vijay Anthony has taken up the singing part in the tamil lines and the English rap by Marc. There is a perfect blend among the two and a good theme in a long time for Vijay. Must be used properly in the movie especially in fights.
Rating - 4/5
On an average one can easily see that Velayudham is an entertaining album which will be lved by Vijay fans and music lovers. Vijay Anthony has struck gold for the second time while partnering with Vijay. Vijay had earlier said that Vijay Anthony has worked 10 times more than Vettaikaaran and the results are to be seen. Yet another wonderful album to the credit of Vijay.
Verdict - Velayudham - Velu's Ayudham to Steal your Hearts. Chillax...
