Sun Pictures out-of-court settlement, 3 more cases withdrawn

Original
In a major relief to Sun Pictures, three complainants, who had filed criminal cases against former COO Hansraj Saxena, have now opted for an out of court settlement. Sun Pictures is a part of the listed Sun TV Network and is engaged in the business of film distribution and production.

The petitioners now want to withdraw cases and if the High Court allows that, Mr Saxena can be released.

Mr Saxena was arrested in July under five different complaints but later the High Court quashed criminal proceedings in two cases.

The complaints were filed by six theatre owners who alleged that the deposit amount for a film 'Endhiran' was not returned. The theatre owners had demanded that the deposit of over Rs. 1.5 crore be refunded.

CHENNAI: Three more cases against Sun Pictures chief operating officer ( COO)) Hansraj W Saxena are likely to be withdrawn. Film producers Hitesh Jhabak and TD Raja and animation studio proprietor Arul Murthy filed separate petitions in the Madras high court on Monday seeking to withdraw their complaints. Justice T Sudanthiram postponed the hearing in the case to August 8.

Earlier, film distributors TS Selvaraj and Shanmugavelu had withdrawn the complaints of cheating they had filed against Saxena.
"This is not fair for the petitioners. They come to us with a complaint and soon withdraw it," said a police officer.

Meanwhile, producer Rasu Madhuravan, has claimed that he had not asked the police to register a case against Saxena and alleged that the police didn't get his permission to register the case.
Saxena's counsel, who didn't want to be named, said: "We have managed to come out of the case as the police have foisted cases against Saxena. Initially, the complainants didn't understand and filed petitions. Later, they realized and withdrew their complaints."

While the cases filed by Selvaraj and Shanmugavelu were quashed by the Madras high court a couple of days ago, those filed by Hitesh Jhabak, TD Raja and Arul Murthy are expected to be quashed and Rasu Madhuravan appears to be in a dilemma to proceed in the case.
Another case, filed by Tirupur-based Srinivasan against Saxena, is under investigation.
