Manikyakkallu releases with no pre-release publicity

Young Malayalam-Tamil superstar Prithviraj's new film Manikyakkallu, written and directed by M. Mohanan, whose debut film Katha Parayumbol (remade in Tamil as Kuselan and in Hindi as Billu) was a super hit, was released on May 5 (Thursday) in limited screens in Kerala without any pre-release publicity!
It is yet to be known why the producers and distributors are not promoting the film. The film was censored and cleared with a 'U' certificate only on Wednesday evening. Prithviraj plays a school teacher in a government school spotting a "mundu". Samvrutha Sunil is the heroine.
It is noteworthy that five Malayalam films released on April 29, namely City of God, Bhaktajanangalude Sradhaykku, Lucky Jokers, Melvilasom and Mohabbath; all bombed miserably at the box-office, because they hardly had any publicity and the public never knew that the films were released. Will Manikyakkallu face the same fate? We need to wait and see!
