Kollywood Box Office Ruined by Cricket, Elections & Exams

Kollywood Box Office Ruined

India is a land of many religions but cricket is one common religion. In country like India, cricket is true love and Passion where it has every thing in it.
In recent times, cricket fever in India surged high and took a great toll on Indian film industry to recently concluded World Cup Matches to commencement of IPL fourth version. In every move cricket is making a huge impact on films and careers of some debutant stars in respective industry.
World Cup 2011, with six weeks power packed schedule, many filmgoers ignored going to cinema halls and simply glued themselves to the televisions at homes.
As we all know, Feb-Mar is conventionally a time where kids are full of activity with their exams and families choose not to go out to watch movies.
Habitually, April to May is the period of new releases in film industry where, many students would be packing up their exams. Sometimes summer is termed as festival season in India for film releases.
Eventually, cinema industry is loosing its glare due to cricket mania across the country. The reason for this is quite evident with cricket fever going high in, where industry is facing a severe heat and drought season has been continuing with in it.
According to financial newspaper mint, it's been evident that, Multiplex chains and film industry especially Bollywood segment of it had lost a whopping in the month of Feb to March ending.
The above mentioned figures may expect to go high in April-May season due to ongoing IPL 4th session. Seat occupancy further declined to 80% during the weekends while the week days it was recorded as just average.
World cup final day, it further slumped box office by 50-60% on single day, says a film expert.
During World Cup season filmmakers stayed away from releasing their films as they can't get the expected collections at the box office.
In this gap during the World Cup the screens turned out to be vacant as no big films are scheduled for release and this has given an opportunity for the small films and dubbed films to hit the screens. As there is no heavy competition most of the small films made a good business when compared to their earlier collections.
With this IPL season in India, which started on April 8th, and concludes on May 28th, there's high chance of loss to film industry.
As many matches of it are planned in different places of country, IPL will make the cricket lovers stand in the gallery for almost all the matches. Apart from WCC another spoiling factor is exams. This factor played a major role as the students and parents were far from big screens to support their kids during exams.
The next big factor that affected the box office collections are Tamilnadu State Assembly Elections. The filmmakers went into a state of confusion during these months as they were haunted by Elections, World Cup and Exams. The situation turned very difficult for them as many questions were in front them. Is the right time to release? If released whether the film will do well or not?
But now, scenario is quietly changing as all the three factors have taken leave currently the many film makers and producers are all gearing to release their movies and are trying to test their luck.
At least eight most awaited movies are expected to hit the screens during April-May months.
During Feb-Mar total 26 films got released and out of them only 6-7 films were able to see average collections.
Let's have a look at the major releases in this Cricket session
