The actress was recently approached for a role opposite Rajinikanth in the upcoming trilingual Raana. Asin rejected the offer without citing any reason, which made director K.S. Ravikumar approach Vidya Balan, who quickly grabbed the opportunity.
Rajinikanth will appear in a triple role in Raana as an old, middle-aged and young man. Yesteryear heart throb Rekha will appear with the older Rajni, while Deepika Padukone will pair with young Rajni and Asin was considered for the middle aged Rajni. Asin's bold move had drawn attention to the actress, who had earlier taken a defiant stand when condemned for visiting war torn Sri Lanka.
