Making period movies is no easy task. But filmmakers like Vasanthabalan could be an exemption to this, for he managed to capture even the busy Ranganathan Street with all its liveliness in his last venture 'Angadi Theru', which is tougher than making a period film.
Gaining strength from the movie's success and the appreciations it won from all sides, the former associate of director Shankar has started 'Aravaan', a film set in the backdrop of rural Tamil Nadu in the 18th century.
Produced by T Siva of Amma Creations, the film has Aadhi of 'Mirugam' and 'Eeram' fame in the lead role, with Dhanshika (of 'Peranmai and 'Maanja Velu') and Mollywood import Archana Kavi as heroines.
Pasupathy is playing an all-important negative role in 'Aravaan', based on a critically acclaimed novel, while the film marks popular singer Karthik taking the avatar of as a music composer for the first time.
"Aravaan means an all-powerful person, who possesses 32 features in him. He is capable of doing anything. Aadhi is tailor-made for the role since he is the Hrithik Roshan of Tamil cinema," says Vasanthabalan.

‘Aravaan’ is a about man who filled with manliness which includes 32 traits of manhood, tender heart and great valor. Aadhi, an Indian film actor who mainly appeared in Tamil films has the lead role in this movie. The director Vasanthabalan searching around 100 villages for true village faces and wants to introduce lot of new faces in the movie. Aravaan is the name of the illicit son of Arjun and a tribal girl, Chitrangadhai, according to the Hindu epic Mahabharat. The director also tries to cover the unseen locations in this movie.
Vasanthabalan revealed on a grand puja event that was held at the Green Park hotel on Friday morning 16 July 2010, “When I thought of this character who is Aravaan, Aadhi came to mind immediately. He is tall, with a good physique like Hrithik Roshan and seeing him in Mirugam and Eerum confirmed my choice.”
The event was also attended by film lead actors Aadhi, Dhanskikaa and Archana Kavi, along with Pasupathy who plays key role in the film. Archana Kavi plays the role of Chimti, Dhanishka is acting the female leading role and Pasupathy also acting well in the film.
Actor Aadhi said about the photo shoot “I pierced my ears to fit into the character who wears jewellery. I am looking forward to working with Vasanthabalan. I greatly admired his work in Angadi Theru and I am really lucky to be working with him.”
Film music director Karthik said “The director had heard my jingles for Rajiv Menon and I got a call from him asking me to do the music for this film. It’s going to be a very challenging task but I am looking forward to it. We are planning on not using any contemporary music in the film.”
The story of ‘Aravaan’ revolves around 18th century’s love story. This film will be produced in Tamil and Telugu languages. Four tunes have been composed and the shooting is being start by end of July. Siddharth, handles the camera in this film.
