Sources in the know had it that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will be taking initiatives and expressed his will to establish a university for Tamil and Indian music in Chennai during the World Classical Tamil Conference that is to happen by this month.

We hear that ace musicians including our Isaignani Illayaraja had been suggesting the government to setup a university for Indian Music in Chennai. Looks like our CM has also intended to appoint Illayaraja as the head of the University Initiative Committee.

Illayaraja usually describes harmonium as his best friend and, the instrument understands and shares his emotions. Despite the fact that the maestro had a lot of cine assignments, he dedicated a part of his time for classical music and devotional albums.

Let’s hope to see more talented musicians from this University of Indian music soon.
