Cinematographer Murthy honoured with Phalke award
V.K. Murthy, the man behind the aesthetic lighting in Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool and Sahib Bibi Aur Gulam, was honoured with India's prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award. Mysore born Murthy become the first cinematographer to win the prestigious award. Born in 1923, Murthy completed his Diploma in Cinematography in Bangalore, started his career with Guru Dutt's Baazi in 1951 and worked in many of Dutt's films. He was also the cinematographer for the country's first cinemascope movie, Kaagaz Ke Phool.
