It's a myth that people who are out of circulation in films migrate to the small screen. I am simultaneously busy working in both,...
Some years ago, Suresh had made a feel-good film with same title (Aaha), which went on to become a hit as well as receive critical acclaim.
"Aaha was made immediately after Baasha, the all-time favourite cult movie of Superstar Rajinikanth. Even today I remember what Rajini said after watching the movie. I was shooting in Vizag for a Chiranjeevi film.
He called me over the phone and complimented me in his own style, 'forget Baasha or Sathya (Kamal starrer) or Annamalai. Aaha is the 'ultimate film' of your career'," recalls Suresh.
Suresh maintains that he has taken only the concept of a large Brahmin family from the film Aaha and woven a different story.
"I've retained the flavour, the values of the joint family system but there’s nothing about the Brahmin community," he explains. Bhanupriya, who also acted in the film, has been roped in for the TV serial, and Karthik Raja has composed the music.
Entering the television industry was accidental, says the director, "Vijay TV approached me to direct a movie like Aaha, but it didn't materialise. Since the film kept getting delayed, they suggested making a mega soap instead."
"I am making the serial like a movie. Two songs were shot in Dubai and one has already been aired. The responses have been amazing," he reveals.
When the topic shifts to the current scenario of Tamil serials that mostly depict social ills and negativity, Suresh responds, "I have directed 50 films and all of them were given clean 'U' certificates.
I am particular that I make films for family audiences. I have a responsibility towards society. I adapt the same policy in TV as well."
