Comedian Singamuthu abandoned his election campaign mid-way afters some crackers, which were used by the party volunteers, went off disrupting his speech at Kumbakonam in Thanjavur District. The ace comedian was campaigning in support of the ruling AIADMK candidates in the run up to the ensuing local body polls scheduled to be held in the State on Monday (17th).
As he did prior to the Assembly elections held in the State in April this year, Singamuthu has been actively campaigning in favour of the AIADMK candidates. He was campaigning in support of Chiniaiyan, a local AIADMK candidate at Udaiyalur Kadai Veedhi in the temple town of Kumbakonam.
When Singamuthu was about to speak, the party cadres burst crackers in huge numbers. One of the crackers, however, fell on a nearby hut belonging to Selvaraj and caught fire. The police and fire personnel immediately rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
Apparently put off by the sudden fire, Singamuthu looked visibly upset and curtailed his speech and left the place soon after.
